Name: John Sackett
Previous title: Chief operating officer, Adventist HealthCare
New title: President and CEO, Adventist HealthCare
Sackett will step into the chief executive role on Aug. 4, after serving as chief operating officer of the Gaithersburg, Maryland-based nonprofit health system for 10 years, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
The executive has more than 40 years of healthcare experience and formerly served as CEO at Louisville, Colorado-based Avista Adventist Hospital. Though the hospital shares a similar name with Sackett’s current employer, the two are unaffiliated.
Sackett replaces Terry Forde, who is departing for a role at Brevard County, Florida-based health system Health First.
Adventist operates three acute-care hospitals and one rehabilitation hospital in the greater Washington, D.C. region.
The health system reported operating income of $8.8 million on total revenue of $1.1 billion in 2023, according to its end of year annual audited financial statement.
Sackett will take the reins as Adventist looks to grow. The health system is in the process of expanding its White Oak Medical Center campus to accommodate growing demands for services, according to reports from the Washington Business Journal.
The expansion is set to include a $20 million, 20,500-square-foot inpatient unit for patients admitted via the emergency room or following surgery care.
Adventist will also add a medical office and an ambulatory surgery center, according to the report.
