Previous title: Chair of emergency medicine at Mount Sinai Health System and professor at the Icahn School of Medicine

New title: CEO, Mount Sinai Health System

Brendan Carr has been tapped to serve as Mount Sinai’s next CEO, according to a Tuesday announcement. He will oversee operations for one of the largest health systems in New York City, covering the system’s eight hospitals, the Icahn School of Medicine and more than 400 ambulatory locations and physician practices.

Carr joined Mount Sinai in February 2020 as the head of its emergency medicine department, where he played a critical role leading the system through the COVID-19 pandemic, said a hospital spokesperson. 

Carr was selected through a national search. In his previous role, Carr focused on building regional systems of emergency care, according to the news release. He also served in a variety of roles focused on improving trauma and emergency care delivery at the HHS.

He replaces Kenneth Davis, who held the chief executive role since 2003. Davis will transition to serve as executive vice chairman of the Mount Sinai Board of Trustees, according to the health system. 

Both appointments are effective early next year.
